“We’re Not in Kansas Anymore…” Prime Video Announces Modern Wizard of Oz Series DOROTHY

A brand-new spin on a timeless classic is headed to your screen — and this time, Dorothy’s got a whole new vibe. Prime Video has officially announced DOROTHY, a contemporary reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, with some unexpected names behind the magic: Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, and creator Gina Matthews (What Women Want, The Little Liars franchise).

Set in present-day America, DOROTHY will follow a bold, Gen Z version of the iconic Kansas girl as she’s thrust into a wild, mysterious world far from home — but full of oddly familiar characters and dangers. Think less ruby slippers, more streetwear and attitude.

Sources describe the upcoming series as a “genre-bending drama” with fantasy, music, and real-world themes woven into its yellow brick DNA. Dorothy’s journey will explore identity, belonging, and power in a chaotic modern world — all while nodding to the beloved 1939 film and original L. Frank Baum stories.

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton will serve as executive producers, with Stefani reportedly also involved in shaping the show’s musical style. Could we see a soundtrack with pop-country bangers or even original songs? The possibility has fans buzzing.

Gina Matthews, known for blending heart and mystery in her past projects, brings her storytelling magic to DOROTHY, promising a world that’s “visually stunning, emotionally raw, and totally unexpected.”

No casting details or release date have been confirmed yet, but production is said to be in early development. Still, with names like Stefani, Shelton, and Matthews attached, DOROTHY is already shaping up to be a must-watch for both longtime Oz fans and a new generation.

✨ Ready or not, Oz is getting a glow-up — and Dorothy’s leading the charge.

Stay tuned for more updates on casting, trailers, and the official premiere date.
