OTT has now become an important part of the movie business. Even films that fail to deliver the expected results at the box office often manage to recover through their OTT revenue. With fierce competition in the streaming market, OTT platforms once competed aggressively to acquire films, often paying whatever amount producers demanded.
Earlier, OTT deals were usually locked in before a film’s release, irrespective of its box-office performance. But the business model has now changed. Streaming platforms are increasingly signing agreements where the amount paid depends on the film’s response at the box office. A similar deal was made for Mandaadi, and this has now turned out to be a major advantage for the producer.
Starring Suhas and Soori in key roles, Mandaadi is a sports action drama directed by Mathimaaran Pugazhendi. Released in both Tamil and Telugu, the film is currently receiving a positive response at the box office.
According to the film’s team, Mandaadi has collected Rs. 65 crore in just five days. The film’s fresh storyline and boat-racing action sequences are particularly winning over audiences.
Thanks to the OTT deal signed before the film’s release, producer Elred Kumar is now in a very profitable position. What initially looked like a regular OTT agreement has reportedly turned into a jackpot for the producer following the film’s strong box-office performance.
