Anakapalli Movie Review: Some films try to impress with big twists and loud action, while others try to tell a simple story with a local flavour. Anakapalli, directed by Khagesh Tammineni, falls somewhere in between. Now streaming on Sun NXT, this Telugu action-crime drama comes with an interesting setup, a bunch of familiar faces and its share of twists and turns.
The film tries to bring the raw atmosphere of crime and local rivalries onto the screen. The story moves around crime, conflicts and the people caught up in them. While the basic idea has potential, the screenplay takes its own time to get going. There are moments that hold your attention, but a few portions could have been tighter. The pacing isn’t always consistent, and that’s where the film loses some of its grip.
Vikram Sahidev shoulders the lead role and puts in a sincere effort. He fits into the world of the film reasonably well, though the writing could have given his character more depth in certain places. Sandhya Vasishta does her part, while Tarak Ponnappa brings the required intensity to the proceedings. Trinadha Rao Nakkina, Indraja Absar, Sangeetha and Nandini Rai add to the ensemble. Mahaboob Basha, Vadlamani Srinivas and Khem Tamang also contribute to the film.

The director Khagesh Tammineni gets credit for at least trying a crime drama with an authentic setting. There are a few parts in the movie that are quite entertaining, especially when the conflicts begin to pile up. Nevertheless, the narration in the film could have been more precise. Some of the scenes seem unnecessary long and the emotional parts do not always seem effective enough.
From a technical standpoint, the movie does suffice in terms of the setting and atmosphere. Overall, the film has a somewhat rough texture which works well given the crime-drama context. However, a good script and proper editing would be able to greatly improve the movie.
Final Verdict:
Anakapalli is a crime drama with an adequate concept and some entertaining parts but fails to deliver its message fully. It has its own entertaining parts, although some aspects of the narration and pacing may be annoying. This movie would probably suit those viewers who enjoy Telugu crime dramas.
Anakapalli is now streaming on Sun NXT.
