Rian Johnson isn’t done with Benoit Blanc just yet.

The acclaimed writer-director has revealed that he wants to continue making Knives Out films “for the rest of [his] life,” even as his two-picture deal with Netflix comes to an end with the upcoming third installment, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Johnson originally signed a major deal with Netflix following the surprise success of Knives Out in 2019. That deal resulted in 2022’s Glass Onion and will conclude with Wake Up Dead Man, slated for release in 2025. But according to Johnson, the end of the contract doesn’t mean the end of the franchise.

“As long as Daniel’s down and as long as there are stories to tell, I’ll keep making them,” Johnson told interviewers. “I could do these forever.”

Fans of the series will be thrilled to hear it. With its twisty plots, satirical social commentary, and the unforgettable presence of Daniel Craig’s Southern detective Benoit Blanc, the Knives Out universe has become a beloved staple in modern mystery storytelling.

While Wake Up Dead Man wraps up Johnson’s Netflix obligation, it may open the door to new opportunities—whether through independent production, another streaming platform, or a return to theaters.

One thing is clear: Rian Johnson isn’t hanging up his magnifying glass anytime soon.
