Trump Thinks the Netflix–Warner Bros. Deal “Could Be a Problem” — And Hollywood Is Buzzing

Hollywood hasn’t even finished its morning coffee and it already has something big to gossip about: Donald Trump has officially chimed in on the massive Netflix–Warner Bros. deal, and let’s just say… he’s not exactly giving it a standing ovation.
While arriving at the Kennedy Center Honors, Trump was asked what he thought about Netflix’s push to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery — a merger so huge it would reshape the entire entertainment landscape. And in classic Trump fashion, he didn’t mince words.
He called Netflix a “great company” and even complimented its leadership — but then quickly pivoted to the real issue: market power. According to him, Netflix already has major influence in the streaming world, and adding Warner Bros. (plus HBO’s powerhouse library) to its cart only ramps that up.
“They have a very big market share — and when they have Warner Brothers, that share goes up a lot. It could be a problem.”
That last part — “could be a problem” — is what sent studio execs, analysts, and half of Twitter into speculation mode. Trump also hinted that he plans to be personally involved in reviewing the deal, which means this merger might be in for a long, winding regulatory journey.
What’s the big deal? Well, if the acquisition goes through, Netflix would essentially become an entertainment super-entity — controlling a huge chunk of streaming and gaining access to decades of iconic Warner Bros. film and TV assets. Think Batman, Harry Potter, The Matrix, Barbie, HBO originals… the list is endless.
And of course, this isn’t the first time the entertainment industry has faced political turbulence over mergers. Media consolidation has been a touchy subject for years, and this deal is shaping up to be the biggest test yet.
For now, Hollywood is watching closely — popcorn in hand — to see whether this mega-merger becomes the next entertainment empire… or gets stopped before the opening credits even roll.
