YouTube May Introduce 90-Second Unskippable Ads on Smart TVs

So, this is kind of wild — YouTube seems to be testing longer ads on smart TVs, and not just a little longer. We’re talking up to 90 seconds, and you can’t skip them.

Until now, the usual unskippable ads were around 30 seconds, which was already pushing it for some people. But 90 seconds? That’s basically like sitting through a mini video before your actual video starts.

From what people are saying online, these ads are mostly popping up on longer videos — like anything between 20 to 40 minutes. A few users have already run into them and shared screenshots, and yeah… they’re not exactly thrilled.

There’s no official word from YouTube yet, so it’s still in that “testing” phase. But it doesn’t take much to guess why they’d do this — more ad time means more money. And honestly, it might also be a way to nudge people toward getting Premium just to avoid the hassle.

What’s not clear is whether this will stay a TV-only thing or if it’ll slowly creep onto phones too. Hopefully it doesn’t, because that would be… rough.
