Kartavya:
Kartavya is coming to Netflix this May, and honestly, it already sounds like one of those crime thrillers that’s not just about “catch the killer and roll credits.”
It’s produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and drops on Netflix, and the basic setup is a murder investigation… but the hook seems to be more about what it does to the cop handling it.
Saif Ali Khan is playing this police officer who’s not exactly the clean-cut hero type. More like… someone who’s doing the job, but also constantly stuck in that messy space where “right thing” and “necessary thing” don’t always match. And that’s usually where things get interesting, or at least uncomfortable in a good way.
The story apparently pulls in his family life too, like the investigation starts bleeding into his personal space. That whole duty vs family angle isn’t new, but when it works, it actually lands hard because it’s not dramatic on paper — it’s just stressful and kind of exhausting, like real life decisions where there’s no perfect option.
You’ve also got Rasika Dugal and Sanjay Mishra in it, which already tells you the performances are probably going to carry a lot of weight. Both of them have this way of making scenes feel very lived-in, not like “acting acting,” if that makes sense.
Directed by Pulkit, who did Bhakshak, so it’s likely not going to be glossy or over-stylized. More like grounded, slightly uncomfortable storytelling. The kind where you don’t always get dramatic background music telling you how to feel.
And yeah, it’s also backed by Shah Rukh Khan, which just adds curiosity by default. Not even about hype — just that he tends to back projects that are at least trying to say something a bit different.
Overall, Kartavya feels like it’s going for that slow-burn tension thing… where the crime is just the surface, and underneath it’s more about pressure, guilt, and choices that don’t really leave anyone feeling good.
Could be really gripping if it sticks the landing. Or at least the kind of film that sits in your head longer than expected, even if it’s not loud about it.
