KD The Devil review:

If there’s one thing the Kannada film industry has absolutely mastered lately, it’s the larger-than-life, adrenaline-pumping action drama. Director Prem’s KD The Devil—now streaming on ZEE5—leans hard into that reputation, packing in enough style, swagger, and star power to keep masala cinema fans more than happy.
Dhruva Sarja is the absolute pulse of this movie. Playing the titular KD, he steps into the shoes of a guy who simply does not know the meaning of backing down. If you’re a fan of Sarja, this is exactly what you want to see: intense screen presence, heavy-hitting dialogue delivery, and whistle-worthy action sequences that he pulls off with total ease.
Director Prem clearly knows his audience and isn’t trying to make a quiet, subtle film. KD The Devil is loud and proud about what it is. The heroes are invincible, the confrontations are epic, and the drama is dialed up to eleven.
The supporting cast brings some serious heavyweight energy to the screen:
Sanjay Dutt is, as always, an incredibly imposing force. Whenever he walks into a frame, the stakes instantly feel higher.
V. Ravichandran acts as the emotional anchor of the story, bringing decades of experience and a lot of heart to his role.
Shilpa Shetty is a fantastic addition, balancing out the grit with a performance full of maturity and undeniable screen presence.
Visually, the movie is a treat. You can tell a lot of love (and budget) went into the production design and costumes. The set pieces are huge, the action choreography is polished, and the thumping background score does exactly what it needs to do—hype you up during the big moments.
Now, for the reality check: KD The Devil relies heavily on a tried-and-true commercial formula. If you’re looking for a groundbreaking plot or subtle, indie-style storytelling, you’re in the wrong place. The script definitely prioritizes hero-elevation and spectacle over narrative surprises, and you’ll likely see most of the plot twists coming a mile away.
But honestly? That’s entirely fine for this genre. It promises a grand, popcorn-munching action ride, and it absolutely delivers. Strong performances, slick visuals, and unapologetic mass appeal make it a highly enjoyable watch for fans of the genre.
My Rating: 3.5/5
