The wait is finally over for DC fans. ‘Lanterns’ Episode 1 is now streaming on JioHotstar in India, bringing the much-awaited Green Lantern story to screens. The series premiered internationally on August 16, while Indian viewers can catch it on JioHotstar from August 17.

This isn’t exactly the usual superhero show where the focus is only on big fights and flashy powers. ‘Lanterns’ takes a darker, more grounded route, mixing the Green Lantern mythology with a crime mystery.

What Is Lanterns About?

The series follows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), a veteran Green Lantern, and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), a new recruit who is just beginning his journey. The two are pulled into a mysterious case involving a murder in the American heartland.

What starts as an investigation soon becomes much bigger, with strange events and cosmic connections coming into play. The first episode sets up the relationship between Hal and John while also introducing the central mystery that will drive the season.

Interestingly, the show has a more detective-style feel, with the makers taking inspiration from crime dramas such as True Detective. So, expect plenty of mystery, tension and character drama along with the superhero elements.

Lanterns Episode 1: What to Expect

The premiere episode introduces viewers to Hal Jordan and John Stewart and establishes their very different personalities. Hal is an experienced Lantern, while John is a newcomer trying to find his place.

The episode also introduces a mysterious case in Nebraska that brings the two together. Without giving away the major twists, the ending certainly leaves viewers with plenty of questions about what is really happening.

The premiere runs for around 57 minutes, including the end credits.
