With The Paradise getting ready for its theatrical release, the film has found itself in the middle of an unexpected online and legal discussion. A Bengaluru court recently granted interim protection to the Nani-starrer over allegedly false and defamatory content being circulated online.
Naturally, one question started doing the rounds: does this mean people won’t be free to criticise the movie after watching it?
Nani has now cleared that up.
Speaking at a pre-release event in Mumbai, the actor said the court order, as he understood it, is aimed at AI-generated and bot-driven content and not at genuine moviegoers sharing their opinions. He specifically pointed out that real people can still post their reviews, reactions and criticism of the film.
“It’s not for real people or real reviews. It is for the bot-generated thing as far as I have understood,” Nani said.
That distinction is important because the court order is not a blanket ban on criticism. The interim injunction concerns specific online content identified in the producers’ case. Reports on the order have also noted that genuine reviews and criticism are not covered by the restriction.
According to the producers’ plea, certain posts, comments and URLs circulating online after the film’s promotional material was released allegedly contained false and derogatory claims. The makers argued that such content could hurt the film commercially just before its release. These remain allegations made by the producers and are not a final finding on the underlying claims.
For Nani, the issue appears to be more about the growing use of automated and AI-generated content to repeatedly push material online.
The actor also made it clear that audiences should be able to watch The Paradise and say what they genuinely think about it. Good review, bad review, mixed reaction — those are all part of the normal movie-watching experience.
And that is probably the biggest takeaway from Nani’s clarification.
The Paradise is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on September 24, with select premieres taking place earlier. Directed by Srikanth Odela, the film reunites Nani and the Dasara filmmaker for their second collaboration.
So, while the court order has certainly added another talking point ahead of release, Nani’s latest comments make one thing clear: genuine audience reactions and honest criticism are still very much part of the conversation around The Paradise.
