Looks like early morning movie celebrations in Tamil Nadu are about to get a whole lot easier!
In a significant move for the cinema industry, the Vijay-led Tamil Nadu Government has issued a new order permitting single-screen theatres and multiplexes to operate between 6:00 AM and 2:30 AM for the first seven days of every new film’s release.
But here’s what makes this announcement particularly interesting. Theatres no longer need to chase separate, film-specific Government Orders to organise 6 AM screenings.
Yes, you read that right!
Earlier, special early morning shows, especially for highly anticipated star-led films, often depended on individual government approvals. This meant that theatre owners and distributors had to wait for the necessary permissions before confirming those much-awaited early shows.
With this new order, that additional hurdle is set to go.
The change could make a noticeable difference during big-ticket releases. Whether it’s a major Vijay film or a much-awaited release featuring another leading star, theatres will have a clearer operating framework for scheduling shows during the first week.
And let’s be honest, in Tamil Nadu, a big movie release is rarely just about watching a film. From fans gathering outside theatres in the early hours to celebrations around the first show, the excitement starts well before the opening credits roll.
For theatre owners, distributors and fans, this could mean fewer last-minute uncertainties and a much smoother release-day experience.
One general order, no more movie-by-movie GO requests for 6 AM shows.
That’s quite a change for Tamil Nadu’s theatrical release culture, and the film industry will certainly be watching how it plays out in the coming months.
