Oscars Just Changed the Game (Again) — No AI Acting, Human Writers Only, and… Double Nominations?!

The Oscars just dropped some new rules, and honestly… they’re kind of a big deal.

First up — the AI thing. The Academy is basically drawing a hard line here. If a performance isn’t clearly done by an actual human, it’s not getting nominated. No blurred lines, no “well technically…” arguments. If AI is doing the heavy lifting, it’s out. Which, fair enough — acting is kind of supposed to be, you know, human.

Then there’s the writing rule. Screenplays now have to be human-authored to qualify. This one feels like a direct response to how fast AI tools are creeping into creative work. It’s the Academy saying, “cool tech, but not here.” At least not for awards.

And then comes the really interesting part — actors can now be nominated twice in the same category for different films. Yeah, you read that right. Same category. Same year. Two performances.
That could get wild.

Imagine an actor having such a strong year that they basically compete against themselves for the Oscar. It’s rare, but now it’s officially allowed. Could make the race more exciting… or a bit awkward, depending on how you see it.

Overall, these changes feel like the Academy trying to protect the “human” side of filmmaking while also shaking things up a bit. Whether it actually improves the Oscars or just adds more debate — we’ll probably find out soon enough.

But yeah, one thing’s clear: AI might be everywhere right now, but the Oscars aren’t ready to hand it a trophy. Not yet.
