rathna kumar 29 netflix:

So, if you’re like me and missed 29 when it had its theatrical run back in May, good news: it’s landing on Netflix this June 5.
Director Rathna Kumar is honestly one of the more interesting voices in Tamil cinema right now. He’s the guy behind Meyaadha Maan (which everyone loved) and Aadai (which… well, everyone definitely had an opinion on). After spending the last few years helping out Lokesh Kanagaraj with scripts for massive movies like Leo and Vikram, he’s finally back in the director’s chair with something way more intimate.
What’s the vibe?
This isn’t your typical “hero meets girl, hero dances” kind of movie. It’s a coming-of-age drama that follows Sathya (played by Vidhu), who is — you guessed it — 29 years old.
He’s going through that specific brand of “quarter-life-plus-some” crisis where you feel like you haven’t really done anything with your life. The movie actually sets itself in the early 2010s, so it’s got this nostalgic, pre-dating-app energy. It’s mostly about his relationship with Viji (Preethi Asrani) and how they deal with the reality of growing up versus the fantasy of love.
Why you should probably watch it
The Cast: Preethi Asrani is consistently great (you might remember her from Ayothi), and Vidhu apparently put in a lot of work for this role. Also, Master Mahendran is in it, which is always a win.
The Music: Sean Roldan did the soundtrack. If you like soulful, quirky acoustic vibes, you’re going to be adding “Seelay Seelay” to your playlist.
The Backing: When you have both Lokesh Kanagaraj and Karthik Subbaraj producing a movie, you know there’s something unique about the script. They don’t usually put their names on generic stuff.
The Streaming Deets
Netflix is going all out with this one, releasing it in five languages simultaneously. It’s pretty rare for a smaller, character-driven drama to get this kind of “Pan-India” push on OTT.
