Something’s Not Right at This School in Netflix’s Wayward – Trailer Drops Ahead of September Premiere

Netflix just dropped the eerie first trailer for Wayward, a new limited series starring Mae Martin (Feel Good) and Oscar nominee Toni Collette (Hereditary, The Sixth Sense)—and it’s giving major psychological thriller vibes.

Premiering September 25, Wayward follows a skeptical police officer (played by Martin) as they investigate a series of unsettling incidents at a secluded school for “troubled teens.” The school is run by an enigmatic and charismatic leader, portrayed by Collette, whose true motives quickly come into question.

From the trailer alone, it’s clear that Wayward is not your typical whodunit. Flickering lights, cryptic symbols, and whispered confessions hint at a deeper mystery—one that blurs the line between reality and something far more disturbing.

“They say it’s a place for healing,” Martin’s character says in the trailer. “But something feels… off.”

Created by Mae Martin and developed with a team of acclaimed writers, Wayward dives deep into themes of power, control, and the complexity of belief systems. With its mix of atmospheric tension and emotional drama, the series is already shaping up to be a must-watch this fall.

Toni Collette, known for her powerhouse performances in horror and psychological thrillers, brings a chilling edge to her role as the school’s elusive headmistress.

Netflix describes the series as “a mind-bending psychological mystery set against the backdrop of an isolated institution where nothing is quite as it seems.”

Wayward will run for six episodes and promises plenty of twists, secrets, and jaw-dropping reveals.
