Mahesh Babu fans finally have some exciting news. Director SS Rajamouli has revealed that the shooting of his much-awaited film Varanasi is entering its final phase and is expected to be completed within the next four months.

Speaking to an international media outlet during the Annecy International Animation Festival in France, Rajamouli shared that all the film’s major action sequences have already been completed.

“We’ve finished all the important portions of Varanasi. The action episodes are fully wrapped. Right now, we’re filming the smaller scenes that connect the story. If everything goes as planned, the entire shoot will be completed by late September or the first week of October,” he said.

Rajamouli also opened up about filming the movie for the IMAX format. He explained that the story was never altered just to suit IMAX. Instead, the team made only a few technical adjustments while keeping the original vision intact.

“We’ve always loved the CinemaScope format, and that’s what our eyes are used to. But from the beginning, we wanted every frame to work perfectly for both CinemaScope and IMAX. That meant using anamorphic framing, which required a few adjustments in the early stages. Once we understood the process, everything became much easier,” Rajamouli explained.

The film stars Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra and is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 7 next year.

Adding to the excitement, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays the role of Kumbha, recently revealed that Rajamouli’s perfectionism reached another level during filming. According to him, the director shot some scenes with as many as 90 takes, raising expectations for what promises to be one of the biggest Indian films ever made.
