Toxic Opens With a Massive ₹140.75 Cr Worldwide — But Can Word of Mouth Save It?

Toxic has started its box office journey on a seriously strong note. There’s no denying that.

The film has reportedly pulled in ₹101.10 crore net in India on Day 1, while its worldwide opening stands at a huge ₹140.75 crore. Those are not just good numbers. That’s a massive opening, especially for a film that came with plenty of buzz and big expectations.

But here’s where things get interesting.

The opening is impressive. The audience reaction is the bigger story right now.

A film can open big for several reasons. A major star, months of hype, aggressive promotions, advance bookings and fans rushing in on the first day can all create a huge number. And Toxic had pretty much everything needed for that kind of start.

But Day 1 is only the beginning.

What happens from Day 2 onwards is where the real box office test starts.

If audiences who watched the film come out genuinely excited and start recommending it to friends and family, Toxic could have a very strong run ahead. That kind of positive word of mouth can completely change the trajectory of a movie.

On the other hand, if the response remains mixed or negative, the huge opening could end up looking more like a one-day spike rather than the beginning of a long theatrical run.

And that’s probably the biggest concern at the moment.

₹101.10 crore net in India on Day 1 is an achievement worth celebrating. But the industry will be watching the next few days much more closely. Can Toxic maintain the momentum? Can it bring in audiences beyond the hardcore fan base? And most importantly, will people who watched it actually tell others, “Go watch this”?

That’s the question.

For now, Toxic has done its job on the opening day.

The real battle starts on Day 2.
