Narnia:
This is kind of wild to even say, but yeah… something’s shifting.
For the longest time, Netflix was the face of the whole “theatrical is dead” conversation. Their whole thing was simple — bring movies straight to streaming, skip the long theatre window, move fast.
But now? That stance just cracked a little.
Their upcoming Narnia (directed by Greta Gerwig) is getting a 45-day exclusive theatrical window, starting February 12.
Yeah. Forty-five days. In theatres. Before it hits streaming.
That’s not a small experiment — that’s basically the traditional model Netflix used to push against.
And it raises a pretty obvious question…
Is this the end of that whole “streaming first, theatres later (or never)” mindset?
Or is this just a one-time exception because it’s Greta Gerwig and a big property like Narnia?
Because let’s be real — Narnia isn’t just any project. It’s a globally known story, huge scale, and the kind of film that actually benefits from the big screen. You can kind of see why they wouldn’t want to limit it to just home viewing.
At the same time, Netflix changing its approach — even slightly — says something.
Maybe theatres aren’t as “done” as people kept saying. Maybe there’s still value in that shared, big-screen experience… especially for certain kinds of films.
Or maybe this is just a smart business move for one film, and once it’s done, everything goes back to normal.
Either way, it’s interesting.
Because a few years ago, this would’ve felt impossible.
Now it’s happening
And yeah… it might not be a full U-turn yet. But it definitely feels like a crack in the wall.
