Okay, Widow’s Bay really did that.
The Apple TV comedy just walked away from the 2026 Emmys with 14 awards, making it the most-awarded comedy series ever in a single season. And honestly, that is a pretty wild achievement.
The show had already been one of the big breakout hits of the year, but 14 wins? That’s another level entirely.
And it wasn’t just a bunch of technical awards either.
Widow’s Bay won Outstanding Comedy Series, while Matthew Rhys took home Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Stephen Root and Kate O’Flynn also won for their supporting performances, with creator Katie Dippold picking up the writing award and Hiro Murai winning for directing.
Basically, the show showed up and cleaned house.

The story follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Rhys, as he tries to turn the supposedly cursed island of Widow’s Bay into a tourist destination. Naturally, things don’t exactly go according to plan.
That strange combination seems to be exactly why people have connected with the show. It has built a passionate fanbase, with viewers getting hooked on its characters, weird humor, horror elements and increasingly bizarre storylines.
The 14-win total also puts Widow’s Bay at the very top of the comedy category. It has now set a new benchmark for Emmy wins by a comedy series in a single season.
Not bad for season one.
