Not all thrillers require bloodshed, violence and some shocking revelations every now and then for keeping the audience hooked. All it requires sometimes is just a weird setting, some suspicious people around, along with that sense of doubt and ambiguity all through the way that keeps you curious about everything. This is the kind of curiosity that can be generated through a dark mystery-thriller such as Aasha.
Directed by Safar Sanal, the film in Malayalam language is being telecasted at the moment on ZEE5, with a very interesting cast including Urvashi, Joju George and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
It is hard not to get intrigued about a movie from its casting alone. It would be fair to say that Urvashi has that quality of making any scene interesting for the viewers and similarly Joju George is a person whose name itself brings into mind some intense and slightly mysterious people, while Aishwarya Lekshmi is yet another recognizable face from the list of actors.
But let’s face it: no matter how great the actors in a thriller are, without an appealing storyline there would be nothing at all.
One of the most important characteristics of a good mystery plot is the need to solve the mysteries of the movie before the filmmaker does so. You begin to find some clues, question characters, come up with your own ideas. Just at the moment when you believe you have solved everything, the story provides some new clues to reconsider your opinion. A very dark atmosphere of the movie seems to be an attractive aspect of Aasha. If you like thrillers that include many mysteries about the characters’ backgrounds and secret stories, then this movie will probably attract your attention. However, if you belong to those viewers who cannot endure the lack of action in the movie for too long, then it may not suit your taste.
Without doubt, the cast gives us one good reason to watch the movie, if you are a fan of the duo of Urvashi and Joju George in movies which do not conform to the typical commercial plot line. But then, every thriller must pass one acid test, which is if the story lives on even after the movie ends. There should be a number of suspenseful moments, but that is not enough.
