Apex feels like a long chase you can’t pause (even when you kinda want to)

Apex:

Just finished watching Apex on Netflix and yeah… this one’s intense, but also a bit exhausting in places.

Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, the movie drops you straight into this survival situation and pretty much stays there. It follows a rock climber being hunted out in the Australian wilderness, which already sounds stressful… and the film really leans into that.

Charlize Theron is honestly the main reason to watch this. She carries the whole thing. There’s barely a moment where she’s not on screen, running, climbing, hiding, fighting… all of it. You can feel the physical strain, which makes it more believable. Taron Egerton is good too, though his role feels a bit less explored than I expected. He brings the tension, but I kinda wanted more depth there.

The setting is a big plus. The Australian wilderness looks amazing but also super unforgiving. It’s not just a backdrop—it actually feels like part of the threat. Like even without the whole “being hunted” thing, you’d still be in trouble out there.

That said… the movie can feel a bit repetitive. A lot of running, hiding, escaping, repeat. It works for tension at first, but after a while you start to notice the pattern. There were moments where I was hooked, and then moments where I was like “okay, I get it, what’s next?”

Still, it does what it sets out to do. It keeps you on edge, even if it drags slightly in the middle. And when it hits, it hits well—some scenes are properly nerve-wracking.

Basically: it’s a solid survival thriller with a strong lead performance, but not something super deep or surprising. Watch it if you’re in the mood for tension and don’t mind a bit of repetition along the way.
