Avaraachan & Sons Review:

What will happen when the father turns out to be the greatest problem of his children? Such is the intriguing concept of the newest Malayalam family comedy-drama called Avaraachan & Sons that is currently available online on Netflix. With Biju Menon in the leading role, the film combines many aspects of family affairs, comedy, drama and emotions.
Based on a screenplay by Thamby, the film tells a story of Avaraachan, a man fond of an independent lifestyle. However, his manner of behavior and irresponsible attitude causes many problems to his sons Jaison (Sreenath Bhasi) and Jaimon (Ganapathi). Normally, parents are expected to be listened to but in this case, the situation is quite opposite as the father’s behavior brings many troubles to his children.
The plot revolves around the rather special relationship of the father and his sons. The conflicts and misunderstanding between the characters cause disputes, funny situations and family drama. As the events gradually complicate, Avaraachan faces the consequences of his own choice.
Biju Menon should be the sole reason why you watch this movie. He is able to fit right into the role of Avaraachan and even make the difficult scenes entertaining for us. The expressions, dialogues, and the ease with which he brings about comedy make some of the scenes quite good.
Sreenath Bhasi and Ganapathi bring a good balance as the sons. Their frustration with their father feels believable, especially in the family confrontation scenes. Grace Antony and Vinay Forrt also contribute to the supporting characters and add some flavour to the narrative.
Another positive aspect of the movie is its straightforward plot. It doesn’t fully rely on surprises and turns. Instead, it attempts to make people laugh at usual family issues. There are some funny scenes in the movie, and the emotional scenes make the plot warmer.
But not all scenes in the film are equally entertaining. There are some parts where the screenplay lacks rhythm, and some scenes could have been shorter. The screenplay also lacks consistency when it comes to humor. Besides, some of the emotional scenes don’t produce the effect that should be produced. So with a more condensed screenplay, the film could have provided much better experience.

Final Verdict
Avaraachan & Sons is a straightforward family entertainer that relies mainly on the acting skills of Biju Menon. Despite some flaws of narration and screenplay, the conflict between the father and son and the funny scenes make it interesting. Though it won’t stay in your memory for a long time, it is still worth watching.
Those who are fans of Biju Menon and like the light Malayalam family dramas can try this movie on Netflix.
