Babita Singh Reporting:

There are plenty of crime thrillers on OTT these days. Most of them follow the same formula — a murder, a cop, a few suspects and a big reveal at the end. Babita Singh Reporting does have all these things, but it is more interested in the person behind the investigation than just the murder itself.
Directed by Ambiecka Pandit, the Hindi crime drama is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film stars Nimisha Sajayan, Barun Sobti, Anshuman Pushkar and Shivani Kahar in important roles.
What is Babita Singh Reporting about?
Nimisha Sajayan plays Babita “Baby” Singh, an under-confident police officer who is used to keeping everyone else happy. She is not the typical movie cop who walks into a crime scene and immediately figures everything out.
Her life changes when she travels to Rewa and meets her childhood friend Bansi, played by Barun Sobti. Bansi is murdered that same night, and Babita finds herself quietly trying to understand what actually happened.
The problem is that Babita doesn’t get much support from the people around her. Even at home, she is constantly expected to adjust and keep quiet. So the murder investigation slowly becomes something more personal for her.
Nimisha Sajayan is really good
The biggest reason to watch Babita Singh Reporting is Nimisha Sajayan.
She doesn’t play Babita like a loud or super-confident police officer. Instead, she keeps the performance very restrained. You can actually see the character slowly gaining confidence as the investigation moves forward.
That makes her journey more interesting because the film is not only about finding a murderer. It is also about Babita finding her own voice.
Barun Sobti also fits nicely into the film, although his role is naturally limited by the story. Anshuman Pushkar and the supporting cast add to the grounded feel of the film.

A different kind of crime thriller
What I liked about Babita Singh Reporting is that it doesn’t try too hard to look stylish.
The small-town setting, family scenes and everyday conversations make the movie feel fairly grounded. There is also a strong focus on patriarchy and the way Babita is treated both at home and at work.
At times, though, the investigation feels a little slow. If you are expecting a fast-paced thriller with one shocking twist after another, you might feel the film takes too much time.
The mystery itself could also have been handled a little better. Some parts of the investigation are stronger than others, and the ending may not satisfy everyone.
Final Verdict
Babita Singh Reporting is not a perfect crime thriller, but it has something more going for it than just the murder mystery.
The film is really about a woman who has spent years making herself smaller and finally starts standing up for herself. That emotional side gives the otherwise familiar police-procedural story a different flavour.
Nimisha Sajayan’s performance is the clear highlight, and Ambiecka Pandit’s direction keeps things grounded rather than turning the movie into a typical masala investigation.
If you like slow-burn crime dramas, realistic characters and stories with a social angle, Babita Singh Reporting is worth a watch on Prime Video.
