Band Melam — simple story, messy ride, kinda works… kinda doesn’t

Band Melam:

Band Melam dropped on ZEE5 and honestly, it feels like one of those films you randomly put on without expecting much… and it more or less stays that way.

The story is pretty simple, nothing too complicated. It’s more about people and their situations than any big plot twists or anything. Harsh Roshan is alright—he fits the role, feels natural, but there’s no big “wow” moment from him. Sridevi Apalla is decent too, especially in a few emotional bits, but her character feels a bit underwritten. Like, you feel there was scope but it just didn’t go fully there. Sai Kumar is probably the most solid part—he just does his thing, very effortless, gives the film some weight when it starts feeling a bit flat.

The movie itself… kind of goes up and down. Some scenes feel nice and real, especially the small-town vibe, conversations, those little moments. But then suddenly it slows down a lot. Middle portion especially drags… you might check your phone once or twice, not gonna lie.

Music is okay-ish. Nothing you’ll remember later. Background score is fine, just there. Cinematography is very basic, no big visuals or anything, but it matches the tone I guess.

What I liked—there’s some honesty in it. It doesn’t feel fake or over the top. What didn’t work—it never really hits a high point. No strong emotional punch, no standout scene that stays with you after it ends.

Overall, it’s like… a one-time, chill watch if you’re bored. Not bad, not great. Just somewhere in between.
