Story
Nivi (Sri Gouri Priya) is all set to marry Ajay (Trigun), the man she loves. However, just before the wedding, Ajay reveals that he is in love with another woman and walks away. The sudden heartbreak leaves Nivi shattered.
Her friends take her to Chennai hoping that a change of place will help her recover. Instead, she becomes deeply depressed and turns to alcohol. At this point, Steven Shankar (Kiran Abbavaram), an orphan with dreams of becoming a filmmaker, enters her life.

Steven starts staying at the house where Nivi and her friends live. Initially, his behaviour irritates Nivi, but his funny and unusual attempts to bring her out of her emotional trauma slowly begin to make a difference.
As Nivi gradually moves on from her failed relationship, she develops feelings for Steven. Their friendship eventually turns into love. But their relationship faces several unexpected challenges. Meanwhile, Ajay makes a surprising comeback into Nivi’s life.
Who will Nivi choose in the end? What happens to her relationship with Steven? The rest of the story forms the crux of the movie.
How Is the Movie?
The film attempts to present a different perspective on love and heartbreak. Instead of showing a male protagonist becoming a Devdas after a failed relationship, Chennai Love Story places a heartbroken woman at the centre of the story.
The first half works better, particularly when Nivi and Steven begin spending time together. Nivi’s emotional struggle and Steven’s attempts to bring some happiness back into her life create several engaging moments.
The romance gradually picks up pace, and the chemistry between the lead actors becomes one of the film’s highlights. The song “Gurthundaa Paata” also adds energy to the proceedings.
The interval sequence creates curiosity and makes viewers wonder how the story will move forward.
However, the second half takes a different route. The film introduces a fantasy element and moves away from the realistic emotional drama established in the first half. While the idea is interesting, the execution may not convince every viewer.
Some of the emotional and fantasy portions require the audience to simply go along with the filmmaker’s vision. The return of Ajay brings some humour into the story, while the pre-climax rescue sequence provides entertainment.
The climax is emotional, but some of the developments are fairly predictable.
Performances
Kiran Abbavaram fits comfortably into the role of Steven. His natural expressions and easy-going performance make his character likeable.
Sri Gouri Priya is one of the biggest strengths of the film. She convincingly portrays a young woman struggling with heartbreak and gradually finding herself again.
Trigun is decent in his important role, while Siri Hanmanth, Pooja, Naveen Neni and Karthik deliver performances within the scope of their characters.
Technical Aspects
Music is one of the film’s strongest technical aspects. Mani Sharma gives the movie an emotional boost with his songs and background score.
Vishwaas Daniel’s cinematography adds visual appeal, while the production values are good.
Director Ravi Namburi succeeds in capturing the emotional tone of Sai Rajesh’s story, particularly in the first half. However, the fantasy-driven second half may not have the same impact for everyone.
Final Verdict
Chennai Love Story has an interesting emotional core and strong performances from Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya. The first half delivers better emotional moments and romance, while the second half becomes more dependent on fantasy and predictable developments.
If you enjoy romantic dramas with heartbreak, second chances and a touch of fantasy, Chennai Love Story is now available to stream on SonyLIV and could be worth a watch.
Final Verdict: An emotional love story with some engaging moments, but the second half falls short of the first.
