Chiraiya Review: A Slow-Burning Mystery That Lingers Long After the Credits Roll

Chiraiya web series review

Chiraiya just dropped on JioHotstar, and honestly, it’s not the kind of series that screams for attention in the first 10 minutes. It’s quieter than that. Almost like it’s sitting in the corner, knowing you’ll come around eventually.

Directed by Amit Kumar, the show feels very sure of its pace. It doesn’t rush, doesn’t over-explain, and definitely doesn’t try too hard to impress. It just unfolds… slowly, sometimes very slowly. And weirdly, that works more often than it doesn’t.

The performances are what really keep you there. Sakshi Tanwar brings this quiet strength to her role — nothing flashy, but you can’t look away. Jim Sarbh has that slightly offbeat energy he always carries, which fits perfectly here, and Ishwak Singh just blends in so naturally that you forget you’re watching someone act. Nobody feels like they’re “performing” for the camera, and that makes a big difference in a story like this.

What stood out to me is how much the show trusts silence. There are stretches where not much is said, and yet it doesn’t feel empty. If anything, those are the moments where it gets under your skin a little. It’s less about what’s happening and more about what might be happening.

That said, yeah — the pacing can test your patience. There are scenes that linger just a bit too long, and you might find yourself wondering if things are going to pick up speed. This isn’t a binge-in-one-night kind of show unless you’re really in the mood for something slow and moody.

But here’s the thing — Chiraiya isn’t trying to be addictive in a loud, obvious way. It’s more of a slow pull. You watch an episode, step away, and then catch yourself thinking about it later. Not many shows manage to do that without big twists or cliffhangers.

It’s not perfect, but it feels… intentional. And that counts for a lot.

If you’re okay with a series that takes its time and lets the mood do most of the talking, this one’s worth sitting with.
