Crooks Season 2 Review: Feels Like a Messy Heist That Somehow Still Works

Crooks Season 2:

Alright, so Crooks Season 2 is finally on Netflix, and honestly… it’s kind of chaotic, a bit uneven, but still weirdly addictive.

Directed by Marvin Kren, the show keeps that gritty, slightly offbeat tone from Season 1, but this time it leans harder into the madness. The story basically picks up with things already spiraling, and instead of slowing down, it just keeps stacking problems on top of problems. Not always in a clean way—but maybe that’s the point.

Cast & Performances

Frederick Lau is still the core of the show, and he carries it pretty well. There’s something very natural about how he plays Charly—like he’s constantly tired, slightly annoyed, but still trying to survive whatever nonsense comes his way. It works.

Christoph Krutzler, on the other hand, brings a totally different energy. His character feels more unpredictable this season, sometimes even a bit unhinged. Not gonna lie, some of his scenes are the most fun to watch just because you’re not sure what he’ll do next.

The supporting cast does a decent job too, though not everyone gets enough space to really stand out. A few characters feel underwritten, like they’re just there to move the plot along.

What Works

The pacing is fast—maybe too fast sometimes—but it keeps you hooked. There’s always something happening: betrayals, chases, random twists. Even when the plot gets messy, you kind of want to see how it all collapses.

Visually, it still looks solid. The European locations, the darker color tones, the slightly rough camera style—it all adds to that “nothing is under control” vibe.

What Doesn’t

The writing can get sloppy. Some twists feel forced, like they needed a shock moment more than a logical one. And yeah, there are definitely moments where you’ll go, “Wait… why would they do that?”

Also, the emotional depth isn’t always there. The show tries, but it doesn’t always land. You don’t feel every consequence as strongly as you probably should.

Final Thoughts

Season 2 of Crooks isn’t perfect—far from it. It’s messy, loud, and sometimes a bit ridiculous. But it’s also entertaining in that “just one more episode” kind of way.

If you liked the first season, you’ll probably enjoy this one too… just don’t expect it to suddenly become super refined. It’s still rough around the edges—and honestly, that’s part of its charm.
