Dark Tamil Movie Review

Tamil horror film Dark is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Simply South, giving horror fans another option for a late-night watch. Directed and written by debutant Kalyan K. Jegan, the film stars Ajay Karthi in the lead, with Anchana Nethrun, Natty Subramaniam and K. Bhagyaraj in important roles. The film has a runtime of around 1 hour 50 minutes.

Dark Story

The story follows Vignesh (Ajay Karthi), an atheist who moves into a mysterious house because of its affordable rent. But there is a disturbing history attached to the place. Strange incidents slowly begin affecting his life, and things take a darker turn after a shocking crime.

What starts as a simple house-horror setup gradually turns into a psychological horror mystery. The film keeps asking whether Vignesh is really dealing with something supernatural or whether there is something else behind all these disturbing events.

Dark Movie Review

Dark is not the kind of horror film that throws a jump scare at you every few minutes. It tries to build an uneasy atmosphere around the house and lets the mystery develop slowly.

Ajay Karthi does a decent job as Vignesh. He has to carry most of the film, especially during the scenes where the character starts losing control of his normal life. K. Bhagyaraj brings a natural presence to his role, while Natty Subramaniam fits comfortably into the investigation side of the story.

The biggest positive is the atmosphere. The film works better when it stays quiet and lets the tension build. The background score also helps create the creepy mood without becoming too loud or distracting.

But Dark isn’t perfect. Some parts feel predictable, and the screenplay doesn’t always connect its different ideas smoothly. The house has a creepy history, but the film could have done more to make the location feel truly memorable. There are moments where the tension works, followed by stretches that feel a little slow.

Still, for a debut director, Kalyan K. Jegan has made a sincere attempt at psychological horror rather than simply depending on loud scares. The film has enough mystery to keep you watching, even if the final impact isn’t as strong as it could have been.

Verdict

Dark is a decent one-time watch for Tamil horror fans. It has a familiar haunted-house setup but tries to add psychological elements and mystery to the mix. Don’t expect a terrifying horror experience, but if you enjoy slow-burn supernatural thrillers, this one is worth checking out on OTT.
