There is something about Don’t Be Shy which is very relaxed. Unlike some romantic comedies which seem hell-bent on trying to tell you how the film will be the next great love story, Don’t Be Shy seems to be the sort of film where a group of people are learning about life, love, relationships and growing up.
Don’t Be Shy features a cast of young people who are just learning about themselves as well as this whole new world of friendship and attraction. The only problem with this is that it’s the only place where the film excels.
Aarushi Bajaj and Ansh Duggal bring a nice, natural energy to the central relationship. Their chemistry isn’t overly dramatic or filmy, and that’s actually a good thing. Some of their interactions feel like conversations you might genuinely hear between young people — awkward, funny, occasionally silly and sometimes a little confusing.

The movie also understands that coming of age isn’t only about romance. There’s friendship, insecurity, peer pressure, family expectations and the simple fear of making the wrong choice. Not everything lands perfectly, but the film gets the emotions behind these situations.
There is also the humor that makes the movie fun to watch. While the laughs will not be rolling out every few minutes, there will be some humorous parts that make the viewing enjoyable. At least the movie knows how to have fun with its characters and not be too serious all the time.
The actors Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu and Neha Dhupia have made the movie more interesting by adding some recognizable faces and personalities without stealing the show from the younger actors who make up most of the main cast.
While Don’t Be Shy is a good film, it is not perfect. There are times when the movie has slow pacing and some plot points are predictable. Some of the characters could have received better development as well.

But maybe that’s also part of its charm.
This is not an overly complex film either. It’s simply a story of youth searching for love and life answers that are yet not available. However, it may be just enough for the film to make sense.
This is neither a drama nor a romantic thriller with a complex storyline. But if you are up for a rather light-hearted comedy on a relaxing weekend night, then Don’t Be Shy will be a perfect choice for you.
It’s sweet, occasionally funny, a little messy and quite relatable in places.
Not a perfect rom-com, but definitely the kind of movie you can put on without expecting too much and end up enjoying more than you thought you would.
