‘GU’: A Strange, Emotional Mind Ride That Stays With You Quietly

GU:

GU is now streaming on Manorama Max, and honestly, it’s not your regular kind of watch. It feels a bit unusual, a bit unsettling, and sometimes even confusing—but in a way that sticks in your mind after it ends.

Written and directed by Manu Radhakrishnan, the film mixes psycho drama with emotional depth, and a touch of horror-fantasy too. That combination itself sets the tone—you’re not supposed to take everything in a straight line here.

The story mainly revolves around intense emotional and psychological layers, with Saiju Kurup in a key role, delivering a performance that feels controlled and steady. He doesn’t overdo anything, which actually helps the mood of the film.

What really stands out is the child character played by Deva Nandha. A lot of the emotional weight comes through her scenes, and she surprisingly holds her space well in some very intense moments.

The film is not an easy, casual watch. It moves in a slow, slightly eerie rhythm. There are parts where you may feel like “what exactly is happening?”, but that seems intentional. It’s more about feelings, trauma, and internal struggle than clear-cut storytelling.

That said, it’s not perfect. The narrative can feel scattered, and a few scenes don’t connect smoothly. Some viewers might find it a bit too abstract or slow.

But if you’re okay with something different—something that leans more into mood than logic—GU has its own quiet impact. It doesn’t shout, it just sits with you.
