Happy Raj Review : kinda slow, kinda sweet, somehow works

Happy Raj:

So I watched Happy Raj on Amazon Prime Video and honestly… I wasn’t expecting much, but it’s actually not bad.

It’s directed by Maria Raja Elanchezian and you can tell it’s not trying to be some big flashy thing. Feels more like a simple, everyday story. A bit rough around the edges, yeah… but not in a bad way.

G. V. Prakash Kumar is basically the reason the film stays watchable throughout. He’s just… easy to sit through. Not overacting, not trying too hard. Just playing a normal guy. And Sri Gouri Priya is nice too, very natural. Their scenes together feel chill, like not super dramatic or anything, just… normal.

The comedy is a mixed bag tbh. George Maryan and Madurai Muthu have some moments that actually made me laugh, and then some that just… didn’t land at all. Abbas shows up and is decent, nothing huge but adds something. Same with Geetha Kailasam and Prathana Nathan—they’re there, they’re good, but you kinda wish they had more to do.

Story-wise, yeah you’ve seen this kind of thing before. Romance, small conflicts, family stuff… nothing new. And it does drag a bit in the middle, I won’t lie. There were moments where I checked my phone. But then it pulls you back with these small, nice scenes that feel real.

I think what makes it work is that it doesn’t try too hard to impress. It just goes at its own pace. Some people might find that boring, but if you’re okay with a slower, slightly messy film, it’s actually kinda comforting.

Also it’s in Malayalam and Telugu too, which makes sense because the story is pretty universal.

Basically: not amazing, not terrible. Just a simple, slightly uneven film that somehow leaves you with a small smile by the end. Good for a lazy watch.
