Hushar Pittalu Review:
Hushar Pittalu is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, giving OTT viewers a chance to check out this Telugu youth drama after its theatrical release. Directed by Bikshu Koyagura, the film stars Ansh Thorat, Vasavi Ganeshan and Prani Reddy in key roles.
At first, Hushar Pittalu looks like a typical young-love story. But the film slowly moves into a more serious space, talking about teenage attraction, bad influences, parental responsibility and the consequences of taking certain decisions without really understanding them.
Story
The plot is about two children of the village, Ravi and Chitti who fall for each other in love and begin their affair in secrecy. As time passes by, the affair which initially began due to sheer curiosity starts becoming a problem when the parents discover this love affair of theirs.
After that, the film concentrates on how the young people face this situation and what reactions are shown by the people around them. The attempt made by the film also is to see how parenting, peer pressure and the environment influences the decisions of teenagers.
While the basic story is not anything new, it is the method adopted by the film to try and tell this story with a blend of comedy and romance.
What Works in Hushar Pittalu?
The biggest positive is probably the performances. Ansh Thorat and Vasavi Ganeshan look comfortable in their roles and their chemistry feels fairly natural. They don’t come across as overly dramatic, which works well for the film.
The village setting also gives the movie a grounded feel. The visuals are colourful and the rural atmosphere comes through nicely.
Charan Arjun’s music is another plus. The songs fit the mood of the film and the background score supports the emotional portions reasonably well.
The second half is where Hushar Pittalu tries to become more than just a youth entertainer. The film brings in the consequences of the youngsters’ actions and the importance of parents understanding what is happening in their children’s lives. That message gives the movie some emotional weight.
Where the Film Slips
The film isn’t completely smooth.
The first half depends heavily on adult comedy, double-meaning dialogues and bold scenes. This may work for some viewers, but it can also feel excessive at times. That is probably going to be the biggest issue for audiences watching it with family.
The screenplay also becomes predictable once the main conflict is established. There are moments where you can more or less guess where things are heading.
A little more restraint in the bold portions and tighter writing could have made the overall experience much better.
Hushar Pittalu on Amazon Prime Video – Is It Worth Watching?
On OTT, the film may actually find a slightly different audience. People who skipped the theatrical release now have the option of watching it at home and deciding for themselves whether its bold treatment works for them.
If you go in expecting a clean romantic entertainer, Hushar Pittalu may surprise you. It is definitely more mature and bold than a regular youth love story. At the same time, beneath all that comedy and controversy, there is a genuine attempt to talk about teenage choices and parental responsibility.
It is not a perfect film, but it does have something to say.
Verdict
Hushar Pittalu is a mixed but fairly interesting youth drama. The performances, music, village backdrop and emotional portions work well, while the excessive adult comedy and predictable writing hold it back.
If you like Telugu youth dramas with a little boldness and a social message, you can give it a shot on Prime Video. Just don’t go in expecting a straightforward love story.
