Janani Movie Review:
Some movies are made to entertain you for two hours. Some just tell a story and quietly leave you thinking about it after the credits. Janani feels more like the second kind.
As part of the #KathaSudha – Sunday Stories series, Janani is now streaming on ETV Win. Directed by Y. Sriram Chowdhary, the film features Suhasini Maniratnam, Raja Chembolu and Manjula Paritala in key roles.
What immediately works for Janani is that it doesn’t try too hard. There is no unnecessary buildup or loud drama just for the sake of it. The film takes a fairly grounded approach and lets its characters and emotions do most of the talking.

And honestly, that works.
Suhasini Maniratnam brings the kind of maturity and emotional weight you’d expect from her. She doesn’t need exaggerated expressions to sell a scene. Even in the quieter moments, there is something happening behind her eyes, and that becomes one of the film’s strengths.
Raja Chembolu and Manjula Paritala also fit naturally into the world of the story. The performances feel less like actors “performing” and more like people simply living through what is happening around them. That’s probably the biggest plus of the film.
The writing is also refreshingly simple. Janani isn’t constantly trying to surprise you with twists. Instead, it concentrates on the emotional side of the story. At times, the pace does feel a little slow, especially if you’re expecting a fast-moving OTT drama. But if you settle into its rhythm, the film starts working better.
There are a few moments that could have been tighter, and the film isn’t completely free of the familiar beats you’d expect from this kind of emotional drama. Still, it has a certain sincerity that makes it easy to sit through.
What I liked most is that Janani doesn’t scream for your attention. It just tells its story and lets you take from it what you want.
So, if you’re looking for a loud commercial entertainer, this probably isn’t that movie. But if you enjoy simple, emotional stories with strong performances and a more grounded feel, Janani is worth giving a chance on ETV Win.
