Lanterns Web Series Review:

Lanterns is not your typical superhero show with lots of action scenes. It takes the Green Lantern world. Combines it with a slow and mysterious crime story. This makes the show feel really different from DC shows.
The story is about Hal Jordan, who is played by Kyle Chandler and John Stewart who is played by Aaron Pierre. Hal Jordan is a Green Lantern who has been doing this for a time and is getting close to retiring. John Stewart is a Green Lantern who is still learning what it means to have this powerful ring. They start working to solve a murder mystery in a small town in America. At first it seems like a crime but it turns out to be something much bigger and more complex.
One of the things about Lanterns is the relationship between Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. Hal Jordan is a bit sarcastic. Has a lot of experience while John Stewart is serious and still figuring things out. They have a mentor-student relationship that makes the show feel more human.
The other actors in the show do a job too. Kelly Macdonald is really good as the sheriff and Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, Nicole Ari Parker and Ulrich Thomsen all add to the mystery. Ulrich Thomsens character, Sinestro is especially interesting because he brings a side to the story.
Sometimes Lanterns feels like a serious detective show than a superhero show. It has a feel to True Detective with a strong focus on the murder investigation and the small-town atmosphere. The superhero parts are still there. They are not the main focus.

This might not be what everyone is looking for. If you want a lot of Green Lantern action you might find some parts of the show a bit slow.. If you like mysteries stories about characters and superhero worlds that feel more real then Lanterns is a pretty interesting show.
Overall Lanterns is a start for the Green Lantern part of the DC Universe. The mystery is intriguing the main characters work well together. The show has enough connections to the DC Universe to keep long-time fans interested without confusing new viewers.
Rating: 4/5
Verdict: Lanterns is an suspenseful superhero mystery that takes its time but it is a great introduction, to Hal Jordan and John Stewart. If you like DC or crime thrillers you should definitely check it out.
