#LOVE web series review

#LOVE is a 6-episode Tamil web series helmed by Balaji Mohan, featuring Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages.

What you need to know about #LOVE is that the series isn’t the usual happy tale of love. It starts out like a regular relationship series, but gradually progresses to become much darker and disturbing. The show explores the consequences of mixing up love, insecurities, ego and trust.

In #LOVE, the duo of Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi takes the lead, but thank God the series doesn’t attempt to portray the couple in a good light. These are imperfect individuals making wrong choices and having heated arguments and sometimes even saying things they really shouldn’t have.

That makes the show feel more real.

Episode 1 – The Perfect Beginning

The opening episode takes its time introducing the central relationship. At first, everything looks fairly normal — two people in love, their chemistry and the little things that make a relationship work.

There are some subtle indications that not everything is all right.

The entire episode depends primarily on the performances. With his strong presence on screen, Arjun Das dominates, while Aishwarya Lekshmi manages to maintain reality in her performance.

Highlight: The chemistry of the leading duo and the subtle suggestions about the complexity of their relationship.

Episode 2 – Cracks Start Showing

This is where the mood begins to change.

The relationship starts showing its cracks, and small misunderstandings slowly become bigger issues. What initially looked like normal couple arguments starts feeling more serious.

The writing does a good job of showing how one conversation can completely change the mood between two people.

Highlight: The uncomfortable conversations and growing tension between the couple.

Episode 3 – Things Get Messy

By the third episode, the series becomes more intense. Trust becomes a major issue, and the characters start revealing sides of themselves that aren’t particularly pleasant.

This is probably the point where you’ll realise that #LOVE isn’t interested in giving us a straightforward romantic story.

The episode also benefits from the performances. Arjun Das especially handles the emotional intensity well.

Highlight: The shift from romance to psychological and emotional conflict.

Episode 4 – No More Pretending

In this particular episode, the characters find themselves placed in an even tougher situation.

The problems that had been previously ignored suddenly become inevitable. The dialogues are getting heated, emotions overflow and the connection itself becomes quite vulnerable.

These particular scenes could be rather disturbing for the audience; however, that is precisely what makes this series intriguing.

Highlight: The emotionally charged confrontations and the changing equation between the leads.

Episode 5 – Everything Falls Apart

This is where all of the emotions are finally unleashed.

The characters have to face up to the consequences of their decisions, and the show shifts from a focus on whether the two love one another to whether love can save the day.

Some scenes seem very dramatic, but the actors pull them off well.

Highlight: The emotional breakdowns and the consequences of the characters’ decisions.

Episode 6 – The Final Answer

The finale brings the story to its conclusion without turning everything into a convenient happy ending.

The final episode focuses on the choices the characters make and what their relationship has ultimately become. Some viewers may find the ending satisfying, while others may feel that the series leaves a few things open for interpretation.

But it fits the overall tone of the show.

Highlight: The emotional payoff and the way the relationship reaches its breaking point.

Performances

Arjun Das is ideal for the intensity in which the series unfolds. Even everyday conversations acquire a sense of weightiness due to the natural talent of the actor’s voice and screen presence.

Aishwarya Lekshmi is also a wonderful choice for the role. The actress is not trying to overdo it at emotionally charged moments, which gives authenticity to her character’s reactions.

The actual power of the web series lies in the chemistry between the two actors. The dynamics in their relationship is uncomfortable to look at but very realistic.

Final Verdict

#LOVE is not an easygoing romantic web series that you can watch without paying special attention to it. The romantic storyline transforms into a plot about the relationship full of conflicts related to trust, insecurity, ego and emotional issues.

The six episodes format works for the web series, though some parts might be done in a more efficient way. Conversations in the series sometimes seem redundant, and the pace is not equally impressive throughout the plot.

Yet Balaji Mohan manages to create a different kind of love story, where Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi perform brilliantly and make their chemistry believable.

Verdict: A raw and intense relationship drama that starts with love but ends up exploring everything that can go wrong when trust begins to disappear.
