Muthassi Review:

Malayalam horror movies have their way of doing things. They do not rely on noises to scare you. Instead they tell stories, share beliefs. Create a spooky atmosphere. Muthassi is similar. It uses folklore to create a slow-burning supernatural thriller.
The series is set in a village where old myths are real. Strange things start to happen. The line between what people believe what they fear and what is starts to blur. The story does not rush. It takes its time. This makes the tension grow with each episode.

One of the things about the series is KPAC Leela. She makes her character feel important. Amith Chakalakkal acts well especially when showing emotions. Akhila Bhargavan brings warmth and sincerity. The cast makes the supernatural events feel real because they focus on emotions.
The director, Nandulal MS knows that horror is not about ghosts. The series makes you feel eerie with silence, village landscapes, old rituals and creepy music. There are a really creepy moments.. The focus is on the mystery and the emotions behind it.
Sometimes the pacing feels slow. This is especially true, in the episodes. If you want scares you might get bored.. If you like horror that slowly pulls you in the series is worth watching.

The way the series is filmed is great. The misty forests, houses and rural setting make it feel haunted. The sound design makes quiet scenes feel unsettling.
Overall Muthassi is a mix of mythology, folklore, family drama and horror. It may not be the series.. It creates a haunting atmosphere and tells its story well. If you like burn supernatural mysteries from local culture you should watch it.
