Ohh My Dog Review: Pankaj Tripathi Is Good, But This Four-Legged Hero Steals the Show on Netflix

Ohh My Dog Movie Review:
Ohh My Dog Movie Review

Ohh My Dog is one of those films where you already know what you are going to get to some extent. There is a missing dog, a kid who refuses to give up, some mystery, a few emotional moments and, of course, plenty of dog love. But surprisingly, the film manages to keep things interesting even when the story starts becoming a little too predictable.

Directed by Amit Rai, the film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, Rajesh Kumar, Geeta Agrawal Sharma, Shreedhar Dubey, Vijay Mishra and Maahi Rai. It originally hit theatres on August 7, 2026, and is now available to stream on Netflix. Netflix lists it as a Hindi drama with mystery and crime elements.

What is Ohh My Dog about?

The story follows a schoolboy whose beloved dog goes missing. Instead of simply sitting around and waiting, the boy starts trying to find his pet himself. At the same time, another dog is connected to the search for its kidnapped owner.

So the movie basically moves through two parallel rescue journeys, slowly bringing the characters and their problems together. There is a mystery angle in the middle of all this, but at its heart, the film is really about the bond between people and their dogs.

The dogs are the real stars

Honestly, the biggest attraction here is not Pankaj Tripathi. It is the dogs.

Oscar, in particular, gets some of the best moments in the movie. Whenever the film stays focused on the dogs, it becomes much more fun to watch. There are moments where you are actually waiting to see what Oscar is going to do next.

The emotional connection between the dogs and the human characters also works quite well. You don’t have to be a hardcore dog lover to understand why the characters are desperate to find their pets.

Pankaj Tripathi does his usual thing

Pankaj Tripathi doesn’t have a huge, show-stealing role here, but he brings his usual warmth and natural screen presence.

He is one of those actors who can make even a simple scene feel believable without doing too much. Rajesh Kumar also makes a good impression, while Pawan Malhotra gets a more intense character.

Maahi Rai, who plays Apu, is another important part of the film. His character is written as a very clever kid who gets deeply involved in the search. Some of his scenes work really well, though the writing occasionally makes him feel a little too smart for his age.

Where the movie loses its grip

The biggest problem with Ohh My Dog is the runtime.

At around 2 hours and 30 minutes, the film feels longer than it needs to be. The basic story could have been told in a much tighter way. Some portions repeat the same emotions or keep the investigation moving in circles.

The mystery itself isn’t exactly difficult to figure out either. There are moments when the movie seems to be building towards something clever, only to take the more obvious route.

Some of the supporting characters and situations also feel exaggerated. A few scenes could have been trimmed and the movie would have moved much faster.

This is something several reviews pointed out as well. While the film’s emotional core and canine performances received appreciation, the stretched screenplay and predictable portions were noted as weaknesses.

Still, there is a lot of heart

That is probably the reason Ohh My Dog works better than the plot might suggest.

It is clearly made with a family audience in mind. The film doesn’t depend on unnecessary adult humour or try too hard to be edgy. Instead, it keeps coming back to friendship, loyalty and the relationship between humans and animals.

And whenever Oscar is on screen, the movie gets an extra spark.

The emotional scenes may be a little obvious, but some of them still land. If you have ever had a pet or are simply a dog lover, a few moments are definitely going to hit harder.

Final Verdict

Ohh My Dog is not a perfect movie. The story is predictable, the runtime is too long and some portions could have been handled much better.

But it has a genuinely warm heart.

Pankaj Tripathi, Rajesh Kumar and the rest of the cast do their part, but the dogs are easily the main attraction. The film is at its best when it keeps things simple and lets the human-animal bond take centre stage.

So, if you are looking for a serious mystery thriller, this may not completely satisfy you. But if you want a family-friendly movie with dogs, emotion, a little suspense and a feel-good message, Ohh My Dog is worth giving a shot on Netflix.
