War dramas are never about battles. The best ones remind us about the people behind the uniforms the sacrifices they made and the lives that changed forever. Operation Safed Sagar: The Untold Story of the Kargil War tries to do that and for the most part it succeeds.
Now streaming on Netflix the series revisits one of Indias important military operations during the 1999 Kargil War. Of turning every episode into nonstop action it takes time to introduce the soldiers, their families and the difficult decisions they had to make before heading into combat. That slower approach helps the emotional moments land better.
The series doesn’t try to glorify war. It focuses on courage, teamwork, fear, loss and the heavy responsibility carried by those serving on the lines. That balance makes it feel more grounded than recent military dramas.

Story
Set during the Kargil conflict Operation Safed Sagar follows a group of Indian Air Force and Army personnel as they prepare for one of the countrys challenging military operations.
The series explores the planning behind the mission the dangers faced by the soldiers and the emotional impact on their loved ones waiting home. Along with the battlefield sequences the story also looks at friendship, leadership and the personal sacrifices made during the conflict.
Than following just one hero the narrative gives space to multiple characters making the story feel larger and more authentic.
Performances
Siddharth delivers one of his performances in recent years. His character feels calm determined and believable throughout the series.
Jimmy Shergill brings experience and authority to his role adding weight whenever he appears on screen. Abhay Verma continues to impress with another performance and shares some of the series most emotional scenes.
Dia Mirza and Prajakta Koli have roles that show how war affects families waiting at home. Adil Hussain, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Amrita Bagchi also perform well making the ensemble cast one of the shows strengths.
Direction and Technical Aspects
Director Oni Sen keeps the storytelling realistic without making it feel overly dramatic. The action scenes are well staged,. The emotional moments are what leave the strongest impact.
The cinematography captures the mountain landscapes beautifully giving viewers a sense of the difficult conditions faced during the Kargil conflict. The background score quietly supports the story of trying to overpower every scene.
The pacing is steady. Some episodes move slowly in the beginning. They help build the emotional payoff later.
