Ramani Kalyanam OTT Review:

You can now stream Ramani Kalyanam on Sun NXT. This movie has a lot of weight but sadly it doesn’t quite work the way it should. It’s one of those films that tries hard to make you feel something but ends up making you feel tired instead.
The story starts with something. There’s a girl named Sanjana played by Deepika Chandran. She loses her eyesight and her parents when shes a kid.. She grows up strong takes care of other kids who don’t have parents and sings in a pub to make a living. Then there’s a guy named Raj played by Surya Vashishta. He’s a cricketer who becomes successful. Loses his legs in an accident on the same day he achieves his dream. These are two lives with two painful journeys and they somehow connect with each other.
It sounds like it could be powerful.. When you’re watching you can see what the movie is trying to do.
The problem is with how its done.
Of letting emotions come out naturally the movie keeps pushing them on you. Every scene feels like its trying to make you feel sorry for the characters than letting you feel it yourself. That’s where it starts to fall. You don’t slowly start to care about the characters. You’re told to care about them.
The romance between the characters also doesn’t quite work. The writing doesn’t let it breathe. Moments that should feel emotional feel staged instead. The way the actors deliver their lines and their performances feel uneven at times, which makes it hard to connect.
Surya Vashishta looks good in the role. Fits physically but you don’t really feel the emotions. Deepika Chandran tries her best. Her performance feels inconsistent especially in the emotional scenes. Srinivasa Reddys role is supposed to be support but it doesn’t quite land.

The screenplay feels stretched and predictable. The scenes follow a pattern and by the time you get to the middle of the movie you can guess whats going to happen. The ending relies on sacrifice and sadness. It feels like something you’ve seen before.
It makes it harder that the movie uses old-school storytelling. Nowadays people who watch OTT expect subtle and natural emotional writing. Here everything feels loud forced and overly dramatic.
There are moments where you can see what the movie wanted to be. An emotional drama, about love, loss and acceptance. But it doesn’t quite work.
Overall Ramani Kalyanam is a intended emotional drama that struggles with outdated storytelling and forced emotions. It might appeal to people who like melodrama but for most OTT viewers it feels like a tiring watch.
The movie is now streaming on Sun NXT.
