Romanchakam Review: Sumanth Prabhas’ Love Story Gets Messy, Funny and Surprisingly Entertaining on Netflix

Romanchakam Movie Review:
Romanchakam Movie Review

If you are looking for a light Telugu movie to watch on Netflix without expecting anything too serious, Romanchakam can be a decent pick. The film, starring Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar, is basically a youthful romantic comedy that mixes love, friendship, confusion and a few unexpected twists.

Directed by Venu Gopal Reddy, Romanchakam was released in theatres in September 2026 and has now made its way to Netflix. The interesting part for OTT viewers is that the movie is available not just in Telugu, but also with Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi audio, so it can reach a much wider audience.

What is Romanchakam about?

Sumanth Prabhas plays Anvesh, a young entrepreneur who gets involved with Mythili, played by Ananthika Sanilkumar. What begins as a simple romantic connection slowly turns into a messy situation involving friends, misunderstandings and unexpected problems.

The movie doesn’t try to make the love story overly complicated from the beginning. Instead, it spends a good amount of time with the characters and their friends, and that’s where most of the fun comes from.

What works in the movie?

The biggest strength of Romanchakam is its youthful mood. The friendship portions and situational comedy give the film some enjoyable moments, especially when the story starts getting chaotic.

Sumanth Prabhas fits comfortably into the role of Anvesh. He has an easy-going screen presence, and the character doesn’t demand an extremely heavy performance. Ananthika Sanilkumar also gets along well with him on screen, making their romantic portions reasonably engaging.

The supporting cast also helps. Upendra Limaye, Venkatesh Kakumanu, Narendra Ravi, Mani Aegurla and Sai Sohan add to the buddy-comedy side of the movie. Some of their scenes are actually more entertaining than the main romantic track.

Where does it struggle?

The movie is not perfect, though.

The biggest issue is that the story can feel uneven. The first half takes its time setting up the characters and relationships, while the later portions become much more chaotic. Some twists work, but others feel like they are there mainly to push the story forward.

The runtime is also something to keep in mind. At around 2 hours and 20 minutes, the movie could have been tighter in places. One of the common observations from reviews was that the film has enjoyable comedy and a likeable lead pair, but the pacing and messy plot hold it back.

Performances

Sumanth Prabhas carries the film well and keeps Anvesh likeable even when the character gets himself into trouble.

Ananthika Sanilkumar brings a pleasant presence to the romantic portions, while the supporting actors are important to the movie’s comedy. The friends’ gang gives Romanchakam much of its energy.

Final Verdict

Romanchakam is not trying to reinvent the romantic-comedy genre. It is more of a casual entertainer with romance, friendship and plenty of confusion thrown into the mix.

The movie has its slow and predictable stretches, but the comedy, young cast and chaotic situations make it reasonably watchable. If you are going into it expecting a simple, fun OTT watch rather than a big emotional love story, Romanchakam works better that way.

And now that it is on Netflix with Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi audio, it is definitely easier to give it a try.
