Rooster:
‘Rooster’ has quietly arrived on Jio Hotstar and eases you into its world with no fanfare. No hype whatsoever. Just the steady pull as the story progresses and leaves you wondering about the next turn. That is until the plot begins to progress and then you are hooked.
‘Rooster’ is essentially a character-driven drama with some suspense and black humor thrown in. The writing is good and takes its time introducing characters and the complicated situations they are in. The wait is well worth it as the minute the plot begins to progress, you are hooked.
The tone is the most impressive aspect. ‘Rooster’ is an extremely tightrope-walking act and this is reflected in its tone. Just when you think you have an idea of where the story is going and how the characters are going to react to a situation or how the plot is going to progress, some twist or some humorously awkward moment throws you off kilter.
The performances are also noteworthy. The actors are natural and down-to-earth and make the characters feel real and not overblown. The performances are good and some actors shine with some well-delivered dialogue and some good acting.
The visual aspects are also noteworthy. The cinematography is good and matches the tone and mood of the scenes. The background score is also good and is used well.
While ‘Rooster’ is not perfect and the middle section is a bit dull and the pacing is not perfect, the intriguing characters and the mystery surrounding the plot are enough to keep you hooked.
‘Rooster’ is a good watch if you are looking to binge some good drama with some suspense and black humor thrown in. It is not perfect but has enough intrigue to make it worth watching on Jio Hotstar.
