Sodhara:
Sodhara just dropped on Aha, and honestly… it’s one of those films where you’re not entirely sure what you just watched, but you didn’t exactly hate the experience either.
Directed by Mohan Menampally, this one leans heavily into that offbeat, slightly chaotic storytelling style. It doesn’t try too hard to be slick or “perfect,” and maybe that’s intentional. Or maybe it just turned out that way. Hard to tell.
Now, let’s talk about Sampoornesh Babu — because obviously, he’s the center of gravity here. If you’ve seen his earlier stuff, you already know the vibe. He brings that exaggerated, almost parody-like energy, and in Sodhara, he pretty much sticks to that lane. Sometimes it lands, sometimes it feels a bit stretched. But you can’t say he’s boring.
Sanjosh, Aarthi Gupta, and Prachi Bansal do what they can with the material. Their performances are decent, nothing mind-blowing, but they keep things moving. Babu Mohan and Getup Srinu add some familiar comic flavor — a few moments actually land well and get a genuine chuckle.
Story-wise… it’s a bit all over the place. Feels like it’s juggling multiple tones — comedy, drama, a bit of randomness — and not always smoothly. There are stretches where you’re like “okay where is this going?” but then suddenly something funny or bizarre pulls you back in.
Technically, it’s not aiming high. The visuals are okay, nothing fancy. Editing could’ve been tighter for sure — some scenes drag more than they should. But again, this doesn’t feel like a film that cares too much about polish.
What kind of works for Sodhara is its unpredictability. It doesn’t follow a neat formula, which can be refreshing… or frustrating, depending on your patience level that day.
Bottom line:
If you’re going in expecting a clean, well-structured film — this ain’t it. But if you’re okay with something messy, a little goofy, and driven mostly by quirky performances, you might actually have a decent time.
Not great, not terrible. Just… oddly watchable.
