Each and every sports movie does not need to have an ending scene where one of the participants wins or loses a game or a battle to be successful or memorable. On the contrary, some films use the struggle behind the game as a base for their stories. Tamil movie The Grand Master, which is now available on SUN NXT, is one of such movies and manages to bring together sport and human feelings.
The Grand Master is made by Vettri Cheliyan and stars Abarnathi, Lingesh, Master Ashwin, Tamilarasi, Vettri Cheliyan, Suresh Chandra Menon, Anbu and Parthi Kesavan.
What is especially interesting about sports films is the fact that they do not tell us only about the competitions on the ground but about many things like human struggles and sacrifices. The movie The Grand Master attempts to capture this spirit of sports and tries to show that the process is as important as the result itself.
In order to achieve it, the film does not treat sports as a mere background for the story but pays attention to human emotions that lie behind it. This makes The Grand Master more personal and dramatic.
Rather than treating sports as just a backdrop, the film gives importance to the emotions and challenges connected with it. The characters and their journeys form the heart of the narrative, giving the story a more personal touch. It’s this combination of sporting ambition and emotional drama that drives the film forward.
Abarnathi and Lingesh are part of the film’s lead cast, while Master Ashwin and Tamilarasi add to its character-driven narrative. Suresh Chandra Menon, Anbu, Parthi Kesavan and the other supporting actors complete the ensemble. Director Vettri Cheliyan also takes on an acting role in the film.
One thing that makes The Grand Master an interesting addition to the Tamil sports drama space is its focus on the people behind the sporting journey. Of course, viewers looking for a completely action-packed sports entertainer might have different expectations, but those who enjoy stories with an emotional angle may find something to connect with here.
Final Take:
The Grand Master is an attempt to bring the spirit of sports to the screen while giving space to the emotions and struggles that come with it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you enjoy sports dramas that look beyond the scoreboard, you can give this Tamil film a try.
The Grand Master is now streaming on SUN NXT.
