Trikala:
streaming on Sun NXT in both Telugu and Tamil Trikala is a film that tries to do something new. It doesn’t just rely on jump scares or usual horror tricks. Instead it mixes in mythology, Sanatana Dharma, reincarnation and supernatural stuff into a thriller. This sounds like an idea and while it doesn’t always work out the film keeps you curious most of the time.
Irikala is directed by Mani Tellaguti. The story is about how the past and present’re connected. As secrets start to come out the story slowly unfolds with mythology, mysterious events and the idea that some fates continue across lifetimes. The story takes its time, which works in some parts. A few scenes feel like they could have been shorter.
Shraddha Das acts with feeling. Fits well into the films intense mood. Ajay has a presence on screen while Arjun Ambati and Sahithi Avancha do their parts well. Rohini and Tanikella Bharani, who have acted in films before bring experience to the supporting cast. Aishwarya Raj Bhakuni also gets a role. Overall the actors do a job of making the emotional side of the story feel real.
The best thing about Trikala is its atmosphere. The makers create a mysterious world without overdoing the horror. The music supports the mood well. Some of the visuals are haunting. Of loud scares every few minutes the film focuses on suspense and mystery.
Sometimes the screenplay feels uneven. A few scenes move slowly. Some emotional moments don’t feel as strong as they could have. The mythology angle is interesting. Sometimes it feels like the film has more ideas than time to explore them.
Still if you like horror films with a background Trikala is worth watching. It may not be perfect. Its different. That’s something we don’t see often in Telugu horror cinema.
Final Verdict: Trikala is a mythological horror thriller with an interesting idea, good performances and a spooky atmosphere. It has its moments but if you’re in the mood, for a supernatural mystery based on Indian mythology this one is worth watching on Sun NXT.
