Ustaad Bhagat Singh Review: Loud, Familiar, and Built for Whistles on Netflix

Ustaad Bhagat Singh movie review

So I just watched Ustaad Bhagat Singh on Netflix and I don’t even know how to fully feel about it tbh.

It’s a proper mass movie, like FULL on. Loud music, slow walks, hero elevation every 10 minutes kind of thing. And yeah, Pawan Kalyan just owns that space. Even when nothing much is happening, he has that screen presence where you’re like “ok fine, this is his film.”

Story… honestly it’s kinda familiar. You can guess where it’s going very early. Cop + justice + emotional backstory + some big “I will fix everything” moments. Nothing really new, just packaged in a very loud, stylish way.

There are parts where it works though. Like the action scenes are actually fun, not gonna lie. The theatre-style moments (even on Netflix) kind of hit if you’re in that mood. Background music is doing a LOT of heavy lifting too.

But then there are scenes where it just drags. Especially second half. You start checking the runtime a bit, which is never a great sign. Some emotional bits also feel a bit forced, like they’re trying too hard to make you feel something instead of it naturally building up.

Sreeleela and Raashii Khanna are there, they do fine, but the script doesn’t really give them much to work with. Same with R. Parthiban — good actor, but kinda underused here.

Direction-wise, Harish Shankar is clearly going for that mass entertainer vibe, no subtlety at all. It’s like “don’t think, just feel the hero moments.” And if that’s your thing, you’ll probably enjoy it more than I did.

Overall… it’s not bad, not amazing either. Very watchable if you’re in the mood for loud commercial cinema. But it also disappears from your head pretty quickly after it ends.

Like, you watch it… and then you move on.
