Varavu is Shaji Kailas revisiting his comfort zone – Action, drama, over the top characters with lots of attitude. Not the best thriller of all time, but one that has its own identity.
The biggest asset of the film is Joju George, who brings an effortless star value to his role. The actor has a natural presence even in the scenes where he has to play subtle. Along with Joju, Arjun Ashokan makes a good impression and the performances of Murali Gopy, Vani Viswanath, Saniya Iyappan and the rest of the supporting cast provide a lot of substance to the film.

Action is definitely the soul of this movie. There are a few sequences that actually do their job in raising adrenaline and the staging has the unmistakable style of Shaji Kailas. The background score, which does its job in keeping the tension alive.
However, it’s the screenplay of Varavu which gets penalized for a couple of reasons. There are a few predictable turns, a bit of convenience here and there and the movie often goes overboard with the intensity.

However, Varavu can still be counted as one of those good entertainment movies if you are a fan of the classic Malayalam action thrillers.
Verdict: While not being the perfect thriller movie, it is still a good action movie with the fabulous Joju George taking center stage.
